This was one of those weddings. The kind where you walk into a room and you can feel the energy holding people up. Where everyone you encounter is so genuine, so real, that you can't help but be excited.
Erica and Chris had their family and friends join them in Sint Maarten. I was just lucky enough to be asked to join them. Seashells, turquoise water, rainbows, and tears of joy. That pretty much sums it up.
Congratulations Erica and Chris. Here are just a few of my personal favorites from your incredible day on the island.
Location: Sonesta Maho Beach
When you travel halfway around the world to document your high school best friend's wedding, a lot can happen. Missed flights, cancelled flights, unintentional 5 hour bus rides, lost luggage, thunderstorms, emergency room visits.
But somehow, when it was time for Katie and Eric to marry each other, the stars aligned. The skies cleared. The rainbow appeared. Not even joking.
Katie, to me, is the embodiment of the idea that positive energy brings positive events. To see someone so special to me experience such an event, with so much love beaming through the clouds, was something I will never, ever forget.
Katie and Eric, thank you for creating this day. And congratulations on creating the life you have together. We love you.

So, are you booking your ticket to Cancun yet? No? Well here, let me help you with that.
Dana and Anthony did all of the planning from here in California, entrusting the details to the planners at the resort. They couldn't have been in better hands. Every detail, every small piece of the day was spectacular. Not only was every part of this reception wonderful, love-filled, and heartfelt (right down to the flowergirl falling asleep in Grandpa's arms), but these guys can party. No, really. You know that party in high school you wish you were cool enough to get invited to? That was this party. There was actually another (perfectly nice, albeit quiet) wedding happening at the same time further down the beach... and I'm pretty sure a few of those guests snuck over just to move it on our dance floor. It was that fun. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE was up and dancing. Every age, every background, no excuses.
Get up and CELEBRATE. Words to live by, no?
I can't even thank you enough, Dana and Anthony, for taking me on this amazing journey with you. I wish you a marriage as loving and joyful as the time you spent together on this beach.
Last week I had the extreme honor of shooting my first destination wedding in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I have to be honest, I had no idea what to expect. I was worried about everything. How much gear to pack, how would i back up all my images in the hotel room, What should I wear to photograph this wedding on the sand, what if customs was a nightmare, what if I got sick... Yeah, if you haven't guessed, I am a bit of a worry wart. But with this event, it was magnified to the max. And the reason for my anxiety was this- I wanted to make sure I gave this couple the absolute best experience and most incredible memories. I mean think about it, you decide to marry thousands of miles away, where you don't have control over anything, and not everyone can join you. That's enough to get you nervous. So I had to cover every base, and allow them to really step back and enjoy themselves.
Well, all my anxiety was for nothing. The trip was smooth (I seriously love Mexico), the resort was an absolute dream (hello, all-inclusive food and drinks!), and the entire family was warm, loving, and all so happy to be here to celebrate this couple and their daughter becoming a family. I couldn't have asked for more.
Dana and Anthony enjoyed their day as relaxed as possible (I mean, it is a wedding, after all. :) ), toasting champagne with their family and getting ready with laughter and music. They exchanged their vows with their toes in the sand and the aqua green sea behind them (yes, it really is that color in real life!), and their closest friends and family embraced them with love.
It was everything a dream destination wedding should be.
